Controversy
On
October 9,
2007, the
American Family Association sent out an
"ActionAlert"
to their members stating that Mrs. Fields had banned "Christmas" products. The email accurately claimed that a company supervisor told "Diane H. of Michigan" that 'Merry Christmas' had been removed to avoid offending some people. The
email spike
resulting from this AFA alert was independently detected by Global Research at Hitwise.
Mrs. Fields
confirmed the exchange
on October 12th, stating "This week, a woman from Michigan called the Mrs. Fields customer service line to inquire about Christmas gifts from Mrs. Fields Cookies. She was incorrectly told that Mrs. Fields won't be selling or promoting Christmas specific items this year, and instead would be focusing on Holiday items as to not offend anyone. Once hearing this, she quickly spread this false information. This miscommunication by the employee has been addressed, and we’ve been assured by the head of the customer service center that this error in communication won't occur again."

It is unknown if the company reinstated "Christmas cookies" back into their product line before complaints.
